- Lecturer: Acting Stream
- Lecturer: Theatre-Making Stream
Requirements for Lecturer – Acting Focus
- A PhD or Master’s degree in Theatre and/or Performance Studies or a related field.
- Strong commitment to completing PhD studies if applying with a Master’s qualification.
- Ability to teach in English, with bilingual proficiency in any Nguni language or Afrikaans advantageous.
- Proven experience teaching Acting and Contemporary Performance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrated ability to teach theatre voice and movement.
- Academic lecturing experience in Theatre and Performance Studies, with a focus on contemporary performance.
- A record of directing and producing professional and student theatre productions.
- Research achievements (including creative works) and commitment to postgraduate supervision.
- Administrative experience within a higher education context.
Advantageous Skills for Acting Stream
- Experience in course leadership and convenorship.
- Familiarity with student management and course administration software.
- Ability to expand the CTDPS’s networks across the African continent.
Requirements for Lecturer – Theatre-Making Focus
- A PhD or Master’s degree in Theatre and/or Performance Studies or a related field.
- Strong commitment to completing PhD studies if applying with a Master’s qualification.
- Expertise in teaching Mime, Physical Theatre, Performance-Making, Directing, and Devising.
- Ability to teach puppetry, object theatre, and movement for actors.
- Academic lecturing experience focused on contemporary performance.
- Proven record of directing and producing both professional and student theatre productions.
- Research outputs (including creative works) and a strong interest in postgraduate supervision.
- Administrative experience in a university environment.
Advantageous Skills for Theatre-Making Stream
- Capability to teach Theatre Voice.
- Proficiency in English and bilingual proficiency in any Nguni language or Afrikaans.
- Ability to expand UCT Lecturer Jobs Positions networks across Africa in support of its mission.
Key Responsibilities for Both Lecturer Positions
- Plan, implement, and coordinate theoretical and practical courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Supervise postgraduate research students.
- Direct student theatre productions.
- Lead courses as convenors where necessary.
- Conduct research and publish scholarly or creative works.
- Contribute to the university’s social responsiveness goals.
