Purpose of the Position

The Casual Cashier will be responsible for delivering professional customer service at the point of sale. This includes processing purchases, handling payments, promoting loyalty programmes, and ensuring compliance with Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ policies and security standards. The goal is to provide a seamless shopping experience that reflects the company’s high service values.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately process sales transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system
• Handle all forms of payment (cash, card, vouchers, etc.)
• Promote and process loyalty programme cards
• Follow all cash-handling procedures, including use of drop safes
• Assist customers with exchanges and returns (when authorised)
• Maintain awareness of current promotions and product pricing
• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication standards
• Report suspicious behaviour to store management
• Provide product and merchandise information to customers

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Casual Cashier vacancy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
• Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
• Sound numeric skills and attention to detail
• Strong command of English, both verbal and written
• Willingness to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and holidays

Advantageous Skills and Attributes

• Experience with point-of-sale systems
• Knowledge of sales, refunds, and price change procedures
• Friendly and presentable demeanour
• Problem-solving ability and time management skills
• A third language is beneficial but not essential

Special Conditions

• Must be a South African citizen
• Clear credit and criminal records required
• Reliable transport or residence near Meadowdale
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding cash and store operations
